Description

The Société Charlevoix, founded in Sudbury in 1992, is an association of scholars engaged in research on all aspects of Franco-Ontarian society, culture and history. The society is named after Pierre-François-Xavier de Charlevoix (1682–1761), a Jesuit priest who left many noteworthy observations on the region that came to be known as Ontario. Members of the society examine French Ontario from the perspective of their respective disciplines. In 1995, the society began publishing the Cahiers Charlevoix: Études franco-ontariennes, a biennial collection of the scholarly work of its members.
