The University of Ottawa Press is pleased to announce the appointment of its new director, Michael O’Hearn.

The former publisher of Novalis, Mr. O’Hearn comes to the UOP with more than 20 years’ experience in trade book and magazine publishing. Under his leadership, the UOP will expand its publishing program and reinvigorate its profile as Canada’s oldest French-language university press and the only bilingual university press in North America.

In her announcement to the University of Ottawa, Vice-President, Research, Mona Nemer referred to Novalis’ growth under Mr. O’Hearn’s leadership, saying, “I have no doubt that his experience will help our own Press forge ahead in its development.”

Mr. O’Hearn is looking forward to reenergizing the UOP’s editorial program and welcoming new authors to its ranks:

"The University of Ottawa Press has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1936. Over the years its publications have contributed immensely to our understanding of Canadian society and culture, and of the world beyond our borders. I see this creative heritage as an inspiration and a valuable resource for maintaining rigorous scholarly standards, thereby contributing to the University of Ottawa’s already well-deserved reputation as an institution of academic excellence."

The UOP also gratefully acknowledges the work of Gilles Paquet, who has been interim director since 2006. Under his guidance, the UOP significantly increased its annual output.
