Lori Saint-Martin

Series editor, Perspectives on Translation 

The University of Ottawa Press is happy to welcome Lori Saint-Martin as series editor of the Perspectives on Translation series, as of January 2018. Professor Saint-Martin will be pursuing the work of Luise von Flotow at the helm of this key UOP series, who had succeeded Jean Delisle.

Dr. Saint-Martin is a professor at the Département d’études littéraires at UQAM. She is also a literary translator, a novelist (Les Portes closes, Boréal, 2013) and a short story writer (Lettre imaginaire à la femme de mon amant, L’Hexagone, 1991; Mon père, la nuit, L’Instant même,1999; and Mathématiques intimes, L’Instant même, 2014).

Professor Saint-Martin and her co-translator Paul Gagné have translated over one hundred essays, works of fiction, and essays. Together they received the John-Glassco Prize (1993), the Quebec Writers’ Federation (QWF) Translation Prize (2004, 2006, 2008 and 2016), and the Governor General’s Literary Awards in Translation (2000, 2007, 2015). They were also shortlisted to this award more than 20 times. She also works on Spanish to French translations.

She received the Gabrielle-Roy Prize (2002), the Raymond-Klibansky Prize (2002 – subsequently the Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences’ Canada Prize), the Prix d’excellence en recherche-création (volet carrière) awarded by the Université du Québec network (2010), and the Prize for best scholarly work awarded by the Association des professeur.e.s de français des universités et collèges canadiens (2011). In 2013, she was awarded the Prix Acfas André-Laurendeau and became a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. The works of fiction she penned have also received top honours.
